Highwood Group promoted this substantial New Forest site which subsequently secured an allocation within its Local Plan, Part 2 in a process that took four years to complete. In 2015, the site was allocated for development comprising 100 dwellings with 50% affordable housing.
The site sits on an area of some 23 acres lying east of Whitsbury Road in the New Forest town of Fordingbridge and this project was designed to meet local housing needs in line with the NFDC core strategy.
To meet the concerns of local residents, we held an initial public consultation to garner feedback to our original design concepts. Having pressed on with our full application, we held a further public exhibition to continue to listen to the feedback from the community.
Since the allocation, we have recently secured detailed planning consent for 145 dwellings and construction is due to begin soon. This is a high calibre scheme that includes 70 per cent of much-needed affordable housing allocation. It also includes a new access to Burgate Primary school and a new drop-off area that will serve the parents and children of Fordingbridge Junior School and benefit the neighbouring communities.
Alongside the residential development an area of Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG) will ensure the Whitsbury Road project remains in keeping with the historic New Forest landscape.
