Highwood is currently building a 60-bedroom Extra Care facility for leading retirement housing care provider, Housing 21 who has received huge support from Arun District Council and West Sussex County Council for the scheme, which has long been in the planning.
Highwood broke ground on the site in the quiet residential area of Westergate in West Sussex in June 2019 having successfully negotiated the land acquisition with a national housebuilder before the build contract was agreed during a lengthy planning process. The Extra Care facility forms part of a Section 106 housing provision that applies to the site.
The new care home will provide 60 one and two-bedroom apartments for rent and shared ownership and, when it’s completed, it will offer the over 55s superb services and facilities, including a café/bistro, a hair salon and a communal lounge alongside offices for the care team.
The development has a 78-week construction timeframe and is set for completion in December 2020 with the first residents expected to move into their new homes in early 2021.
The facility will be named Monaveen, in memory of the Queen’s former racehorse which made its first winning appearance at Fontwell Park, the prestigious local racecourse, in October 1949.
