An exciting new care home for West End village for leading care partner, Hartford Care

Highwood has completed the construction of a new 70-bed care home in West End, Southampton in another collaboration with Octopus Real Estate’s flagship Octopus Health Fund and Hartford Care, the leading UK care provider.

Moorhill Care Home is a landmark 70-bed development set within landscaped grounds at Moorhill Road, West End, Southampton. Conceived by Highwood Group in partnership with Octopus Real Estate’s Health Fund and leading care operator Hartford Care, the project demonstrates how sustainable healthcare architecture can meet the pressing demand for care provision while enhancing the daily lives of residents, staff and visitors.

The development was approved by Eastleigh Borough Council in August 2023 following a widely supported public consultation. Construction began in October 2023 and the finished home is now a striking three-storey, U-shaped complex, clad in natural timber-scale finishes and wrapped around a series of landscaped gardens. External terraces provide panoramic views of Telegraph Woods, a 50-acre public woodland, enhancing both the architectural presence of the building and the therapeutic value it offers to residents.

Moorhill redeveloped a former brownfield site to create high-quality accommodation with communal facilities and modern medical support. It has been awarded BREEAM Excellent and EPC A ratings, ensuring the project is as sustainable as it is functional. By bringing together healthcare expertise, design innovation and environmental leadership, Moorhill sets a precedent for what forward-thinking care home development can achieve.

The best of contemporary healthcare design

Moorhill Care Home represents the best of contemporary healthcare design. It balances therapeutic intent with operational efficiency, and sustainability with community value. By achieving BREEAM Excellent and EPC A ratings alongside exceeding biodiversity targets, the Moorhill Care Home scheme proves high-quality care can be delivered without compromise to the environment.

The new care home stands as a precedent-setting model for the future of healthcare architecture in the UK and beyond; one that enhances the lives of residents, supports staff and reassures visitors that care can be delivered in uplifting and sustainable surroundings.

In December 2025, Moorhill Care Home was shortlisted as a finalist in the Best Architectural Design – Care Home at the Healthcare Design Awards.
