A £10 MILLION SPECIALIST DEMENTIA CARE HOME FOR BRACKLEY INVESTMENTS AND HEALTHCARE MANAGEMENT TRUST

Highwood has delivered a 64-bed specialist dementia care home for Brackley Investments in the village of Climping, close to the seaside town of Littlehampton in West Sussex. The care home is run by Healthcare Management Trust (HMT), a charity that provides health and social care.

Designed by London architects, Hunters, the £10 million Climping scheme was hailed as a pioneering innovation in care home design and approach; its ethos was to feel less like a care home and more a familiar home for its residents. Designed over two storeys, incorporating four wings housing 16 bedrooms, each wing is split into two households of eight-bedroom homes with their own domestic kitchen, dining and living room spaces.

A NOVEL APPROACH TO CARE

As a specialist dementia facility with a novel approach to care, HMT’s residents live in these individual homes alongside others who are experiencing a similar dementia stage. This holistic, ‘family’ approach to developing relationships and the mental wellbeing of residents is crucial for encouraging social interaction and minimising stress and anxiety.

All individual ‘homes’ feature beautiful en-suite bedrooms, communal areas, including living and dining rooms, reading rooms and a garden lounge. Terraces overlook the landscaped grounds that are accessible to residents and their visitors. A café, tea room, shop and hair salon also form part of this stunning scheme.

The project concluded in 2023 with new residents welcomed shortly after.
