A 56-bed neurological rehabilitation facility for people with specialist care needs in the South

Highwood has delivered a pioneering neurological rehabilitation centre at Adanac Park in Southampton with leading care partner, Hamberley Development and Hamberley Neurocare.  The scheme represented one of Highwood’s first high-profile specialist healthcare developments focussing on rehabilitation, long-term, respite and palliative care for people with brain and spinal injuries as well as neurodegenerative conditions. A second neuro unit for Hamberley Neurocare was under construction simultaneously in Camberley, Surrey.

The site lay on former agricultural land on the outskirts of Nursling and a short distance to the east of the M271 that leads into Southampton and the M27 motorway.

Advanced neurological rehab and support

The new unit became one of the most advanced neurological rehab centres in the South of England, providing rehabilitation, recovery and residential care for people living with complex neurological conditions, including Parkinson’s and Huntington’s. Today, the unit supports the University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust, which is also based next door at Adanac Park and the work of the University of Southampton. 

Hamberley Neurocare’s facility comprises 57 en suite bedrooms and a substantial, self-contained independent living apartment. It is also home to a physiotherapy gym, medical consulting rooms, lounges, dining rooms and a café bar. All facilities on site were designed to meet the requirements of those living with complex care needs.

An adjacent 80-bed luxury care home

At the same time, Highwood also completed a new 80-bed luxury care home for Hamberley that sits adjacent to the Hamberley Neurocare development on the Adanac Park site. You can read about the new care home project here and our news story that covers our breaking ground ceremony in 2022.

Work began on site on the new Hamberley Neurocare unit in summer 2022 and opened in summer 2024.
