To mark the success of a key planning application on two substantial parcels of land in Hampshire, Highwood has announced an exciting new partnership with Octopus Real Estate and Hartford Care.
Highwood’s collaboration with Octopus Real Estate’s flagship Octopus Health Fund and leading UK care provider, Hartford Care, will see 137 care home beds delivered on the south coast.
The first of two deals formalised under 35-year agreement for lease terms is for a new high-end, 67-bed care home on land on Selborne Road in Alton. Consent for the development also includes 28 retirement apartments and a new landscaped public open space ‘gateway’ for Alton, which was granted in May.
Planning consent for a second project to deliver a prestigious, 70-bed care home in landscaped grounds near West End village in Southampton is due imminently. Highwood has already exchanged contracts on the two best-in-class projects that will carry BREEAM Excellent-rating and industry-leading sustainability credentials.
“We’re very excited to have agreed terms on these state-of-the-art schemes with market leading investor, Octopus Real Estate, and renowned care provider, Hartford Care,” said Phil Prosser, Development Director at Highwood. “It marks the start of a strong relationship with two of the most respected investors and operators in the healthcare arena and we’re looking forward to working with them on our future pipeline projects.”
Chris Wishart, Care Home Origination Director at Octopus Real Estate, commented: “We’re delighted to be embarking on a partnership with such a highly regarded developer as Highwood Group and established quality care provider, Hartford Care. We look forward to bringing forward these two much-needed best-in-class care facilities which will be at the forefront of quality and sustainability.”
Kevin Shaw, Chief Executive of Hartford Care, commented: “We’re extremely pleased to work alongside Highwood and Octopus Real Estate to add these impressive new care homes in Alton and Southampton to our portfolio, providing our expert care and facilities to our future residents.”
Portonus Associates, the bespoke healthcare real estate agency, managed the lease transaction on behalf of Highwood. Shoosmiths’ represented Highwood throughout the legal process; Forsters acted for Octopus Real Estate and Clarke Willmott for Hartford Care.
