A two-phase retirement village scheme incorporating a best-in-class care home, Assisted Living units and wellness Centre

Highwood has promoted a substantial parcel of land that borders the South Downs National Park in Horndean, Hampshire, through East Hampshire District Council’s planning system since 2013.

The start of this remarkable project marks the culmination of an ongoing promotion of a strategic land scheme with East Hampshire District Council. With the advent of its Local Plan: Joint Care Strategy, and continuous collaboration with the Council, the new Horndean care village is set to become one of our most ambitious retirement village schemes to date.

A two-phase delivery for two leading care partners

In early 2021, outline planning consent for the proposed development of a prestigious retirement village was granted. The plans comprise a 60-bedroom care home, 120 Assisted Living units, a wellness centre, spa, swimming pool, restaurant and a range of other superb facilities.

The project will be delivered in two phases: a prestigious 60-bed care home for leading care partner, Barchester Healthcare and a second phase will create 120 retirement dwellings for award-winning care operator, Inspired Villages. Inspired Villages is committed to delivering the later years’ development as a net-zero retirement community.

A best-in-class C-shape design

As part of the first phase of development, Highwood broke ground on the two-storey care home in late 2021. The 60-bed care home features a best-in-class C-shape design that will house beautiful en-suite bedrooms, comfortable lounges, an activities room, a cinema and a hair and beauty salon.

Completion of the new care home is scheduled for the summer of 2023 and Barchester will welcome its first residents shortly after.
