60 new one and tw0-bedroom apartments for rent and shared ownership

Highwood has delivered a three-storey 60-bedroom Extra Care facility for leading retirement housing care partner and provider, Housing 21.

Named Monaveen after the Queen’s former racehorse, which first won at nearby Fontwell Park in October 1949, the new facility will comprise 60 one and two-bedroom apartments for rent and shared ownership. The Extra Care unit forms part of a Section 106 housing provision that applies to the development, which is set on a 0.75 hectare former greenfield site.

Delivered on time despite Covid

The retirement and assisted living development was subject to a lengthy planning process, although it received huge support from Arun District Council and West Sussex County Council who recognised the region’s need for a care home of this stature.

Construction on the scheme commenced in late 2019 on a 78-week construction programme, but just a few months later, the Covid pandemic enforced wide-ranging restrictions including a site closure during the first national lockdown. Thanks to the efforts of the project team and its close collaboration with our construction and supply chain partners, safe, stringent working practices were implemented to protect the on site teams and to ensure our delivery commitment was maintained.

Highwood was also awarded a Certificate of Excellence by the Considerate Constructors Scheme having demonstrated compliance with its Code of Considerate Practice on the project.

Stunning accommodation and communal facilities

This exciting development offers the over 55s an impressive range of facilities, including a café/bistro, hair salon, activity room and a treatment room. There are also stunning bedroom suites, an impressive residents’ lounge and communal gardens for residents and their guests to enjoy. Monaveen also has 28 parking spaces with 4 disabled bays, internal bin and buggy stores and a covered cycle store.

The first residents moved into their new homes in early 2021.
