Our Land East of Horndean project is a mixed-use scheme that will create a community of 693 new homes, including affordable housing and a prestigious new care village as well as a new school and has been shortlisted in the Planning Awards’ Site Allocation of the Year category.
The project received overwhelming support from local residents, with a record 92 per cent of people favouring the location for its much-needed new facilities – unprecedented backing for a scheme of such a substantial scale – and hundreds attended the two public exhibitions during a lengthy consultation period.
As Simon Beech, Director at Highwood Group revealed, the project was indeed answering the call for much-needed change. The vast stretch of farmland that lay east of Horndean will now be developed into a vastly improved infrastructure for the town with new school, new homes and a new care village set overlooking a cricket pitch and pavilion and the South Downs National Park.
‘We’re delighted that the Land East of Horndean project has attracted so much positive attention,’ he explained. ‘Both East Hampshire District Council who granted consent for the plans and the local community have been incredibly supportive of our proposals and now, to be recognised by the Planning Awards judges for our scheme, really is terrific news.’
Winners of the Planning Awards 2015 will be announced at a gala reception at The Royal Society of Medicine in London on 17th November.
