Originally home to St Martin’s First School in Sandford in Wareham, Highwood’s project was our first care home build for our client, Mayflower Care Communities.
The design and build contract for our first care home project for this client was awarded to Highwood following in-depth negotiations with Mayflower Care and Chessmann, the project management team.
The building was built in a traditional form of construction with the main living accommodation arranged over the ground and first floors with the back of house facilities contained on the third floor within the roof space. Highwood worked closely with the client’s interior design and project management team to ensure the specification and finishes met the high expectations this exceptional project demanded.
The site had the added complication of having to retain a listed building in the centre of the site, which become a community building on completion. The construction works took just over a year to complete with the first occupation in August following the client’s fit out and registration process.
The new building now benefits from fabulous roof terraces that overlook landscaped communal gardens and beautiful woodland walks. In addition, St Martin’s primary school, which originally occupied the site, is being replaced by a new school that’s being developed close by.
