A challenging strategic land project that called for a tireless and very sensitive approach

Bridge Road in Bursledon is set on one of the most idyllic locations in Hampshire, with the River Hamble and all the sailing and maritime activities that make this a thriving residential and tourist area. It was on this site that we promoted a land scheme that would create 90 new homes on the prestigious waterfront area close to the banks of the River Hamble.

Meeting the growing need for new homes in the area

The land was owned by a family with whom we worked closely to enhance the popular parish with a sympathetically designed residential housing scheme, which would also meet the growing need for new homes in the area. The site had already been identified within Eastleigh Borough Council’s Pre-Submission Local Plan 2011-29 for residential development for approximately 100 dwellings.

Highwood duly hosted a public exhibition at Bursledon Village Hall to give local residents the chance to find out more about our proposals and to incorporate their ideas into our plans. Plans for the site were formally submitted a month later.

Complex in nature, but every challenge overcome

The project was incredibly complex in its nature; we faced difficulties with the high-pressure gas main and an oil pipeline that feeds jet oil into Heathrow airport and runs directly through the site. Issues with noise from the M27 and associated air quality and concerns over traffic on the surrounding highways made this a challenging strategic land project that called for a tireless and very sensitive approach.

However, planning was successfully secured and construction on the site was underway soon afterwards. With all works now complete, the Bridge Road development is now one of our most successful schemes to date.
