A contemporary housing development in landscaped grounds and open spaces to rejuvenate the city

The Deanery is one of our proudest achievements to date; we acquired land from Southampton City Council and transformed it into a contemporary housing development comprising 140 superb apartments and 29 four-bedroom townhouses. All are set in landscaped grounds and open spaces that have really rejuvenated this once run-down area of the city.

Highwood’s proposals ensured we were shortlisted by the local authority alongside national housebuilders to complete this project, but thanks to our extensive local knowledge and proven track record in high quality development we successfully secured the contract and work got underway.

We set new standards in sustainability and design at The Deanery, using solar panels to supply hot water and responsibly sourced building materials throughout the construction that went on to gain Code Level 5 compliance. We also collaborated with a community artist to complete the communal areas with a modernist finish.

The deanery represents a high quality, inner city regeneration scheme that has a remarkable history

Set close to Southampton’s St Mary’s football stadium, The Deanery represents a high quality, inner city regeneration scheme that has a remarkable history. The land sits within the mid-Saxon settlement of Hamwic where evidence of the remains of construction dating back to c.1600 was found. This meant a build that remained sensitive to the archaeological interest and former dig was essential.

Despite these challenges, the build was completed successfully and all homes were soon sold, ensuring The Deanery was transformed into the vibrant community it remains today.
