Highwood competed on an international stage at this year’s BREEAM Awards 2019 with our high-profile North Stoneham Park community project and were delighted to be Highly Commended when the results were finally announced this week.
The BREEAM Awards is an annual event that recognises excellence in the sustainable building arena and this year’s ceremony drew winners and success stories from across the globe. Indeed, Highwood came second only to the UK’s landmark Hoover Building in London in the Homes – Post Construction Stage category.
Other winning buildings include the Park View Office Tower in Kazakhstan, the Cofco Landmark in China, Cuba’s Hotel Quebrada 17, Sweden’s Taballen 4 and the Unilever Food Innovation Centre in the Netherlands. These international schemes join over 500,000 buildings that have been certified by BREEAM in over 80 countries since its launch in 1990 – indeed, the system has made a huge impact on the quality of the built environment.
Steve Matthews, Highwood’s Construction Director, revealed what an endorsement of this stature by BREEAM meant to the company: ‘Naturally we’re overjoyed to have been Highly Commended by BREEAM for our North Stoneham Park project,’ he explained. ‘Moreover, to find ourselves among so many international building contenders is a hugely significant achievement. Highwood has maintained an unwavering commitment to sustainable construction since our business was formed over 30 years ago and BREEAM’s recognition of our efforts on a global stage is an enormous honour.’
The BREEAM Awards 2019 were presented at a gala event that was presented by one of the BBC’s leading correspondents, David Shukman, at London’s Hilton Bankside Hotel.
