Highwood sponsors Back into the Light in aid of World Suicide Prevention Day
Highwood has sponsored the ManGang’s Back into the Light event and walked the Test Way through the night in aid of World Suicide Prevention Day 2021.
The Back into the Light event was organised by the ManGang, the remarkable mental health support initiative whose ‘it’s not weak to speak’ message is helping to change the way men share their experiences.
Highwood sponsored the event with a £2500 donation and two of the team – Steve Matthews, Managing Director, and John Gale, Site Manager – took part as the ManGang and their supporters set off from Romsey at 10.30 on Friday night.
The group of men and women walked through the night covering 12 miles of the Test Way, Hampshire’s longest chalk stream, across fields and open spaces, returning to Market Place in Romsey in time for first light.
‘It was a pleasure to be involved with another superb ManGang initiative,’ said Steve. ‘Walking Back into the Light gave John and I the opportunity to make new friends and demonstrate Hope Through Action on World Suicide Prevention Day. It was a rewarding experience and we’re delighted that we’ve been able to contribute to the event.’

A beacon of hope
‘Back Into the Light was all about raising awareness and demonstrating that support is out there,’ revealed Andy Bishop of the ManGang. ‘By Walking Back into the Light, we showed that the light of hope and support is brighter through action and that, by keeping moving forwards, the light will return.
‘We are incredibly grateful to all at Highwood, not only for the amazing support they have shown us with our projects and events, but the way they have embraced our mission and helped us spread our message among their teams and suppliers. Highwood truly is a beacon of hope.’
