In the spirit of this month’s Men’s Health Week and to, quite literally, build on the momentum of its support for mental health awareness with Project Spartacus. Highwood was proud to contribute to the hugely collaborative effort to build a mobility scooter shelter for a member of the local ManGang mental health initiative who organised the event with meticulous precision.
Thanks to the generosity of the Highwood team and those in our supply chain, we worked with Andy Bishop’s ManGang group to construct a timber storage shed for Tony who was unable to bring his mobility scooter indoors.
All teams gave up their weekends to work together to complete Project Spartacus in two phases that saw the ground prepared and the timber structure erected using equipment, plant and carpentry labour kindly donated by Elliotts, Travis Perkins and SC4 Carpentry respectively.
Tony was delighted with his new scooter shelter and was full of praise for the teams of men who came together to make it happen with such collective determination.
‘We were delighted to play our part in Project Spartacus,’ said Terry Oliver, Health and Safety Manager at Highwood. We’ll continue to support ManGang and the collective drive to ensure mental health issues cease to be a taboo subject and make our workplaces environments where we recognise these issues and can help our workforce accordingly.’
Terry and Andy joined forces again this month for the second ManGang mental health briefing at Highwood’s construction site on the former Eastleigh Police Station grounds.
Everyone was happy to get involved and discuss the challenges of mental health in the workplace and particularly those faced by men who are less eager to talk about their struggles and experiences.
If you’re finding it hard to live or work with a mental health problem, it’s important to remember you’re not alone. You can get 24/7 support from the ManGang or visit Mind for information and help.
