Highwood has broken ground on a prestigious new care project on a prominent site in Otterbourne, near Winchester. Shawford Springs Care Home is a new 64-bed care home is the latest later years’ development Highwood is building for our leading care partner, Barchester Healthcare.
Highwood has a long relationship with this parcel of land, which was formerly the site of the Captain Barnard pub. We were instrumental in the acquisition of the site in 2007, which resulted Highwood’s successful subsequent planning application for a care home.
However, the property was sold again after the property crash in 2009 and, as Steve Matthews, Highwood’s Managing Director, revealed, Highwood is pleased to be returning to the site again with a contract to build the luxurious new care home for Barchester.
‘We’re delighted to have broken ground on this superb site and to be working with our valued client, Barchester Healthcare again,’ Steve said. ‘We’re looking forward to another seamless build process and working closely with the Barchester team once more. This is an exceptional scheme in a great location and our dedicated project management team and appointed contractors will deliver it in late 2022 as planned.’
Shawford Springs Care Home has been designed to Barchester’s usual high standards and will provide personalised residential, dementia and respite care. Accommodation includes 64 superbly equipped en suite bedrooms, comfortable lounges, a dedicated activities room, cinema and in house hair and beauty salon.
‘We are really excited to get this project under way,’ commented Andrew Williams, Senior Property Development Manager at Barchester. ‘Shawford Springs Care Home will be a fantastic addition to the local community.’
The new care home will have an on-site marketing suite that will open its doors to the local community and visitors next summer.
