A luxurious later years’ development set on the outskirts of Winchester for leading care partner, Barchester

Following a lengthy relationship with the former site of the Captain Barnard pub in Otterbourne, on the outskirts of Winchester, Highwood is currently building a high-end, 64-bed care home for leading care partner, Barchester Healthcare. Shawford Springs Care Home will provide personalised residential dementia and respite care in a facility that will represent a welcome addition to the local community.

Highwood originally acquired the parcel of land in 2007 and obtained planning consent for a new care home. Following the financial crash of the same year, it was sold to an investor in 2009 and then to another care operator before being returned, by coincidence, to Highwood to develop a high-end care home. Highwood was instrumental in devising a plan for the site that was accepted by each of the two separate landowners and was delighted to be commissioned to bring the scheme to fruition.

Impeccable high standards and superb facilities for residents

The Otterbourne scheme represents the latest care home project undertaken for care partner, Barchester Healthcare, and will stay true to the impeccable high standards of existing Barchester care facilities. These include 64 superbly equipped en-suite bedrooms, comfortable lounges, a cinema, activity room and an in-house hair and beauty salon for the exclusive use of residents.

Shawford Springs Care Home’s on-site marketing suite will open its doors to the local community and visitors in summer 2022. Highwood’s construction programme is scheduled to conclude in late September 2022 with Barchester welcoming its first residents soon after.
