Highwood received planning permission for a new 67-bed care home alongside 28 affordable, age-restricted apartments on land in Selborne Road in Alton, Hampshire. The project is another for Highwood’s partnership with Octopus Real Estate’s flagship Octopus Health Fund and Hartford Care, the leading UK care provider.
In addition to the care home and apartments, Highwood will develop adjacent land, creating a landscaped space to form a gateway into the town. A competition to nominate the most popular layout for the land was held during the public consultation process and was won by Deacon Design. The scheme will comprise generous green space with wildflowers, lighting and seating and a new connection to the Writer’s Way.
The care home will offer en suite wet rooms and nursing stations and a range of luxurious communal lounges and dining rooms as well as hair and beauty rooms, a cinema and gym. Training rooms, offices and kitchens will also be housed in the main care home block. The retirement apartments will be housed in a second, neighbouring block.
