In 2016, Highwood Group will begin construction of an exciting new care village as part of the wider North Stoneham Park Project that sits on land bordered by Eastleigh’s Chestnut Avenue, Stoneham Way and Home Wood. Eastleigh and Test Valley Borough Councils who share the administrative boundary on which the land sits granted planning consent for a landmark project that will create a magnificent care village, new homes and community facilities.
The care village, which forms part of the associated South Stoneham Park Project, comprises a 60-bed care home as well as a superb range of assisted living and independent living units. The village will be set in landscaped grounds that are connected to other areas of the development, including beautiful open spaces, by defined footpaths that will also provide easy access to Eastleigh.
The project as a whole is a residential-led, mixed-use development that local councils recognise offers a much-needed solution to the shortage of local affordable housing and a shortfall in land supply. Highwood’s scheme features 1100 new homes, including affordable housing, as well as a local community centre with a nursery, a range of retail units and a primary school. Superb sporting facilities and landscaped public spaces complete the project.
Throughout the planning application process, Highwood Group was mindful of the impact on the local community and actively engaged with residents throughout. Public exhibitions were held to introduce the draft masterplan and see it evolve were attended by hundreds of local residents who were invited to present their views and questions on how the development might affect their community.
In terms of the landscape, Highwood’s professional consultants identified Avenue Park as the most historically sensitive area of the site, which we’re pleased to confirm will be retained and we’ve worked closely with county conservationists on a scheme that will enhance this delightful area further.
A traffic management solution devised following strategic traffic and modeling assessments and which will allay the concerns of residents regarding potential congestion will significantly cut the existing lengthy queues and ease the overall traffic flow on Stoneham Lane and the M27 junctions.
