Key North Stoneham Park planning applications announcement by Highwood imminent

Three crucial planning applications for housing development at Highwood Home’s North Stoneham Park project will be heard by Eastleigh Council planners on Tuesday 17th October.

The Planning Committee’s hearing will consider Highwood’s applications for three separate stages of development on the North Stoneham Park scheme. This follows on from the successful detailed application for Stage 1, which granted consent for 564 new homes that sit on land to the east of those included on the current applications. The construction phase for the first stage officially began with Eastleigh Mayor, Councillor Mo Sollitt, breaking the first ground on an area along Stoneham Lane earlier in October.

The Stage Two application refers to 514 dwellings, Stage Three is for 39 and Stage Four will seek approval for 18 new homes; all represent a significant chapter in this remarkable new community’s progress.

‘We’re naturally very excited that the Council’s planning committee will now be considering the next stage of our project'

Simon Beech

'We’ve always been mindful of the impact North Stoneham Park will have on the local community, so we’ve actively engaged with residents throughout the planning process and taken account of their comments as we devised our masterplan. As with our earlier application, we believe the planners will look positively at our proposals and see the contribution they will make to Eastleigh’s residents and grant us consent at the meeting next Tuesday.’ revealed Simon Beech, Land Director of Highwood Homes.

The new applications bring the number of new dwellings sought on this highly anticipated mixed-use development to 1100 much-needed homes, including one to five-bedroom beautiful apartments and houses that will solve the area’s housing shortfall as identified in the Council’s five-year plan. The project will also answer the call for affordable housing in the area, with a generous 35% allocation given by Highwood to affordable homes.

Highwood’s proposals have consistently been sympathetic to the local environment and its historic nature. As part of its proposals, and to offset the development of the existing sports pitches, new facilities will now be created and linked to the new residential area by a new footway along Stoneham Lane. An associated planning application to provide additional new sports facilities on land south of the M27 has been submitted and will also be heard on 17th October during the same planning meeting.

With regard to North Stoneham Park’s impact on the local transport infrastructure, an intelligent traffic management solution was devised that will allay the concerns of residents regarding potential congestion. It will also significantly cut the existing lengthy queues and ease the overall traffic flow on Stoneham Lane and the M27 junctions.
