Highwood Group’s landmark North Stoneham Park project unanimously approved

July 2015

We're pleased to announce that Eastleigh Borough Council has unanimously approved our landmark North Stoneham Park project, which will create a stunning development of 1100 new homes, school, care home, shops and sports and recreational facilities for the town.

Outline planning permission for the new multi-million pound complex that sits south of Eastleigh’s Chestnut Avenue and near Junction 5 of the M27 was agreed by all six Eastleigh Local Area Committee councillors who acknowledged the shortfall in the Council’s five-year housing land supply and local affordable housing. Committee Chairman, Paul Bicknell, also reaffirmed the benefits that would be derived ‘from long-awaited improvements in infrastructure on the road network along the Chestnut Avenue corridor together with the creation of jobs and improvements in the provision of local sporting opportunities.’

We worked closely with the Council and county conservationists to ensure any concerns regarding sustainability and the protection of the site’s historic areas were addressed and held a series of public exhibitions to give local residents the opportunity to contribute their views to the project. The result is a remarkable scheme that we know will deliver a high quality residential-led development of 1100 new homes, a primary school, nursery, care home, community centre, retail units and magnificent sports facilities that, together, will create a vibrant and much-needed extension to Eastleigh’s residential and leisure resources.

A remarkable scheme for Eastleigh

‘Naturally, we’re delighted Eastleigh Borough Council has shared our vision for the town,’ confirmed Simon Beech, Highwood Group Director. ‘ Eastleigh’s residents will soon be able to enjoy new living, community, shopping and sporting facilities that will dramatically enhance their environment and meet the demands for housing, including affordable homes, that have, until now, remained unmet.

‘This is a substantial project that has captured the imagination of the town’s people and we could only have secured the necessary backing by collaborating as closely as we did with everyone involved. We’re now looking forward to starting work on the development in 2016 and delivering what we believe will be a remarkable scheme for Eastleigh.’

In addition to our construction plans, beautiful landscaped public open spaces, green infrastructure and ecologically sensitive habitats are to be created. The project’s impact on the local road network have also been allayed by plans to upgrade local highway junctions, create a new road to serve the development and ease the traffic flows on Stoneham Lane and the M27 junctions.
