Building homes, communities and futures since 1987

Case Study: Hamilton House Care Home, Drayton, Portsmouth

Hamilton House is a beautiful, 60-bed care home, which formed part of a wider retirement development that incorporates Langstone Court, a 50-bedroom luxury retirement community of one and two-bedroom apartments. Together, they sit close to the heart of historic Portsmouth on the south coast.

Highwood constructed this outstanding care home on the site of the former Futcher School, which closed as a result of amalgamation during 2006 and we handed the project over to our development partner, national care home operator Southern Cross, in 2008, a year after work began.

The project created interest when Highwood proposed building both a care home and retirement complex next to each other on a single site to create a wider community that residents would find rewarding. This synergy was uncommon in Hampshire, but we found success in our pioneering approach and the site is now a flourishing environment that lies within landscaped gardens with magnificent views towards the Solent.
