Case Study: Site of the former Captain Barnard public house, Winchester

Highwood Group purchased the site of the former Captain Barnard public house in Otterbourne Road, Compton on the outskirts of Winchester in 2009, following a year of unsuccessful marketing by the owner. The Captain Barnard had been a public house for many years, but closed in 2008 and swiftly demolished.

Our plans to develop a 65-bed care home on the site were granted after a period of close consultation with local residents and we created a scheme that was sensitive to their concerns and those of Winchester City Council.

Before construction began, Highwood agreed a sale to Brendoncare, marking another successful planning consent process for a new care home.
