In 2006, Highwood took the opportunity to acquire land close to Southampton General Hospital for an innovative land assembly scheme that saw us construct 70 new build homes and apartments, including provision for affordable housing for local families.
The project to build 56 apartments and 14 houses, including
16 three and four-bedroom affordable homes, was not without its challenges. We
had to remain sensitive to the existing ecological habitats and the potential
flood issues that came with such a challenging topography and land assembly
scheme. We worked hard to retain and enhance the ecological habitats using
pioneering retaining structures that enabled us to deliver Highwood’s high
standards of design and finish, whilst maximising the land use.
21 units were marketed and sold primarily to investors to
rent to staff based at Southampton General and our affordable housing element
of the scheme was handed over to Raglan Housing Association in 2006.
