Case Study: Jubilee Court, Sturminster Newton

Jubilee Court, a small residential development, was completed by Highwood Group as part of a wider scheme that incorporated a 60-bed care home and a substantial residential development of 41 homes.

This charming development of just three, three-bedroom townhouses and two apartments began in 2011 after our planning consent was granted on its first application. Following our completion of the estate, all five homes were sold within just four months following a proactive campaign by local estate agency, Roy Barrett.

Sturminster Newton is set in the Blackmore Vale area of Dorset and on the River Stour. It is a historic market town and is renowned for its dairy agriculture, which is economically significant to Sturminster Newton’s popularity. Indeed, Jubilee Court is built on the site of the former creamery, a remarkable building that housed the town’s dairy. It was formed as a cooperative in 1913 and the Milk Marketing board eventually purchased the building in 1937. It moved to Dairy Crest ownership in 1994, but closed permanently in 2000.

The site is now home to our development of the care home, further residential development, retail units, offices and a class B1 employment building.

We held a series of public exhibitions and meeting to ensure we remained sensitive to the concerns of local residents throughout the consultation phase. We were determined to ensure the mixed-use development would support small-scale economic activity, extend the range of services available to the local community and enhance the local environment.
