The Barns, Romsey
We moved into our new privately owned office development, The Hay Barn, in January 2011, following a meticulous design process to create a bespoke, commercial working environment with a contemporary feel, yet which worked with the existing fabric of the historic barns and to the satisfaction of Test Valley Borough Council.
Deanery site, Southampton
This contemporary, high-density scheme of 140 apartments and 29 four-bedroom townhouses has now been successfully handed over, to Downland Housing Association (now Affinity Sutton) and Testway Housing Group (now Aster Communities).
Stricklands, The Deanery, Southampton
Highwood Group constructed a small, affordable housing scheme of just three apartments and one house on land we acquired from a private owner.
Jubilee Court, Sturminster Newton
Jubilee Court, a small residential development, was completed by Highwood Group as part of a wider scheme that incorporated a 60-bed care home and a substantial residential development of 41 homes.
Site of the former creamery, Station Road, Sturminster Newton
This £6million housing scheme was developed for Raglan Housing Association and completed ahead of schedule. A mix of 41 one and two-bedroom houses and two, three and four-bedroom houses comprising 31 homes for rent and 10 for shared ownership were built on the site of a former creamery in the rural market town of Sturminster Newton.
Dale Road, Southampton
In 2006, Highwood took the opportunity to acquire land close to Southampton General Hospital for an innovative land assembly scheme that saw us construct 70 new build homes and apartments, including provision for affordable housing for local families.
Salisbury Road, Andover
Our development of four houses and nine apartments is set on a large site that included the construction of Ashbourne Court, a 64-bed private care home and 52 extra care apartments.
Sea Road, Southampton
Our project to develop land close to the waterfront in Southampton’s Itchen area became an award-winning scheme for Highwood when it was presented with the Best Stand Alone Small Development title at the Affordable Home Ownership Awards recently.
Sinclair Road, Southampton
Highwood’s development of land on Sinclair Road, in Southampton’s Lordshill area comprised 16 houses and 15 apartments.
Southampton Road, Eastleigh
We completed this highly successful brownfield development in December 2006, following extensive consultation with the local planning authority.
Cobden Avenue, Bitterne, Southampton
Highwood’s scheme to develop 35 apartments within a four-storey building in a prominent corner position on Southampton’s busy Cobden Avenue commenced in 2007 and was complete a year later.
Bracken Hall, Chilworth
Bracken Hall was one of Highwoods first ventures into the conversion and extension of existing buildings. This project involved the restoration of a locally important building set amongst 100 acres of woodland and located adjacent to Stoneham Golf Course.
Angela Court, Havant
The opportunity to develop a plot of redundant land was introduced to First Wessex by Highwood Estates and the build contract began in earnest in June 2004.
Coppice Hill, Bishops Waltham
Highwood Group’s strategic land project at Coppice Hill in Bishops Waltham involved a close and detailed consultation with the town’s residents and its Parish Council to ensure our plans for a modest number of high quality houses on the greenfield site would be favourably received.
Land East of Horndean, Portsmouth
The strategic land project to secure planning consent for an extensive mixed-use development on farmland lying to the east of Horndean in Portsmouth was undoubtedly one of our most ambitious to date. Our plans, which we submitted jointly with Cala Homes, would feature almost 700 new homes, a care village, community facilities, including a school, shops and allotments, was set among 25 acres of playing fields and woodland spaces.
Bridge Road, Bursledon, Southampton
Highwood Group promoted a land scheme that would create 90 new homes on the prestigious waterfront area of Bursledon close to the banks of the River Hamble on a site that had been identified within Eastleigh Borough Council’s Pre-Submission Local Plan 2011-29 for residential development for approximately 100 dwellings.
Winchester Road, Fair Oak, Southampton
Highwood Group devised a scheme to transform an area of approximately 12 acres on the outskirts of Fair Oak village, near Eastleigh in Hampshire and which formed part of a larger proposed allocation within Eastleigh Borough Council’s Pre-Submission Local Plan 2011-29 for up to 330 dwellings.
St Johns Road, Hedge End, Southampton
Highwood Group promoted a scheme to build 94 new homes in a residential development in Hedge End on land that lies south of St Johns Road and west of Foord Road. The scheme had been included in Eastleigh Borough Council’s pre-submission local plan 2011-29 and allocated for approximately 100 dwellings.
Hunts Pond Road, Fareham
One of our most complex projects to date, the plan to construct 326 homes took almost five years of planning promotion through Fareham Borough Council; the site perfectly illustrates our success through effective, strategic planning promotion.
Peters Road, Locks Heath, Fareham
Highwood Group has promoted this site of approximately five acres through the local plan over a number of years jointly with Fareham Borough Council. Arranged in three parcels of land, consent for 49 units as part of Phase One was granted in 2012.
Our project to build a 60-bedroom care home at Abbottswood in Romsey’s market town began in the summer of 2014 and has since become one of our most celebrated schemes to date. This was the fourth project that Highwood undertook with Hartford Care, our joint venture care partner, and we’re delighted to see how this remarkable development is continuing to change the lives of local residents for the better.
Royal Court, Netley, Southampton
In 2013, we were granted planning consent for this, one of our most prestigious developments to date. Royal Court was a stunning project comprising nine, one and two-bedroom luxury retirement apartments and a 65-bedroom care home. The grounds of a former special needs school, the site had been the subject of much speculation since 2011.

Set within the beautiful Netley Abbey Conservation Area and close to the shores of the south coast’s premier sailing waters, Netley Court Care Home is a brand new state-of-the-art care home that offers luxurious specifications, private landscaped gardens and stunning views across Southampton Water.
Sunnybank House, Botley Road, Fair Oak, Southampton
Highwood Group devised a superb scheme to build a 60-bedroom nursing home at a beautiful, semi-rural site in Fair Oak on the outskirts of Southampton, which would be developed by Highwood Construction and retained and managed by Cinnamon Care Capital, our joint venture care partners.
Hartwood House, Lyndhurst, New Forest
Hartwood House is an exciting development and the first project within Highwood's Care Home operating business, which has been borne from a joint venture with our partners Hartford Care. Based in Basingstoke, the Hartford Care team has a wealth of experience and is a recognised specialist provider within the care home sector.
Cross Road, Weymouth
Highwood Group purchased this site in Weymouth in 2010 when it was formally marketed by Dorset City Council. With land of approximately one acre, the site had been occupied by Buxton House, a registered care home that, unfortunately, did not prove viable and was forced to close in 2006.
Wilton Road, Salisbury
For many years, the Old Manor Hospital on Salisbury’s Wilton Road, had been left in such a state of disrepair it was considered a disgrace to the city, having been boarded up and left to decay. Some of the previously magnificent buildings on the site had been listed, but many were considered not special enough to be formally listed by English Heritage, especially given the encroaching 20th century development.
Site of the former Parker Foods Dairy, Fareham
Highwood acquired the site of the former Tom Parker Dairy in Fareham in 2011 and construction of a new, luxury 80-bed care home and six purpose-built assisted living bungalows began later that year.
Welshmill Lane, Frome
Highwood Group agreed to purchase this site in Frome, Somerset in 2009 from McCarthy and Stone, having recognised the need for a quality care home in the town. The land, which is set at the eastern end of the Mendip Hills, lies in woodland and overlooks the River Frome.
Salisbury Road, Andover
This exciting scheme to build 52 extra care apartments with full support and communal facilities was successfully handed over to our client, Synergy Housing Group, ahead of schedule.
Salisbury Road, Andover
Our development of a 64-bed private care home on a large site in Salisbury Road, Andover was the third care home to be developed with healthcare partner, Southern Cross, and was handed over in 2009, a year after construction began.
Site of former creamery, Station Road, Sturminster Newton
Our project to build a 60-bed care home on the site of a former creamery in Sturminster Newton was part of a substantial project to develop a £6 million residential scheme of 41 houses and Jubilee Court, a small residential development as well as retail, offices and a class B1 employment building.
Site of the former Captain Barnard public house, Winchester
Highwood Group purchased the site of the former Captain Barnard public house in Otterbourne Road, Compton on the outskirts of Winchester in 2009, following a year of unsuccessful marketing by the owner. The Captain Barnard had been a public house for many years, but closed in 2008 and swiftly demolished.
Nelson House, Rowner Road, Gosport, Portsmouth
We commenced work on this project to construct a 32-bed mental care home in 2011 and handed the site over to specialist mental health care provider, Albion Ventures, the same year.
Langstone Court, Portsmouth
Langstone Court is a luxury, gated community that incorporates 50 one and two-bedroom retirement apartments set close to the heart of historic Portsmouth on the south coast.
Hamilton House Care Home, Drayton, Portsmouth
Hamilton House is a beautiful, 60-bed care home, which formed part of a wider retirement development that incorporates Langstone Court, a 50-bedroom luxury retirement community of one and two-bedroom apartments. Together, they sit close to the heart of historic Portsmouth on the south coast.
Rowner Road, Gosport, Portsmouth
Our construction of this specialist, 86-bed care home scheme in Gosport in Hampshire began in 2008 and was the second site that Highwood handed over to our partner, national care operator Southern Cross Healthcare just a year later in 2009.
